Domino Activity Trends database, activity.nsf is a domain replica by default -- Now to change it

Daniel Nashed  4 March 2024 16:58:09

We had this discussion in the OpenNTF Discord channel. The only information available is an old SPR Document for Domino 6.5.6.
There was a change in Domino 6.5.6 for the domain replica used for the database, because it conflicted with a new Sametime database, which was also a domain replica.

Still the database is always a domain replica, which means it's replica ID is derived form the Domino directory (names.nsf) database.
Only the last one (in some cases the last two) hex digits are changed.

For some other domain replicas like certstore.nsf and cscancfg.nsf the domain replica is only enforced at creation time.
But for activity.nsf the replica-ID is updated regularly to reflect the domain replica.

But it turns out that there is a simple way to disable setting the domain replica specifying 0 for the notes.ini parameter:

ATC_Set_Replica_ID=0

The SPR document might be a bit misleading for this use case.

SPR# CSCT65YMW6 - The Activity Trends database, activity.nsf, has a new domain replica ID, to avoid conflicts with Sametime's vpuserinfo.nsf.  The value of the "ATC_SET_REPLICA_ID" notes.ini variable can be used to change this behavior if necessary. A negative value will reset the replica ID to the old value, which conflicts with Sametime's vpuserinfo.nsf. A zero value will cause the replica ID to remain unchanged. A positive value will cause the new value to be used.
