Header/Subject Encoding issues after upgrading to 9.0.1 FP10

Daniel Nashed  1 February 2018 12:09:04
As Christian Henseler reported in the comments there is an issue with SMTP header encoding.
Subjects that are UTF8 encoded are not converted.

I can reproduce that on my server with different external mail accounts and also when using putty against a FP10 server. With FP9 it works well.

They look like this:   =?utf-8?Q?Ã=84ü_Test_?=

Until this problem is fixed you should not uprade to FP10!

I have opened a PMR and also posted in the DP forum. L2 confirmed it looks like a regression.

Stay tuned for updates.

It's not a server only problem.

If Notes is used as POP3/SMTP Client, the same issue occurs

idea: FP9 includes new templates pernames.ntf and pubnames.ntf

Is there a setting in thos templates that influences this?

@Lars, this happens when the server receives the mal and converts the mime stream into notes items (itemizer).

Already in my SpamGeek application the resulting subject is wrong. Basically the encoded UTF-8 string is stored.

We had issues in this area before and had IFs for a similar issue ..

Depending on where the itemizing happens also the client can be affected.

Does this issue effect only incoming email?

6Jay Marme  02.02.2018 15:42:57  Header/Subject Encoding issues after upgrading to 9.0.1 FP10

I am using the current pernames.ntf on two installs of the FP10 client, and I'm not seeing garbling of double byte characters in the subject line of incoming messages (The servers are still FP9). If the problem applies to the FP10 client, should it be easily reproducible?

I have the same issue, worked fine in FP8 but now it is broken. Does not seem to affect IMAP clients, as I am using Thunderbird and they subject comes through correctly. But Traveler, Notes Client and iNotes all have issues. I can not see any patterns as it seems that even emails I send that people reply to have the issue.

The main issue would appear to be a character change over as all the subjects seem to start with " =?UTF-8 "

I wrote a little agent script who converts the hex-code strings into readable charaters. The agent can be run manually. It runs on all selected documents. The character mapping is not complete (only umlaute and some special characters). Not perfect but works for me for the moment.

Thanks for your feedback and questions about the header issue.

It would make sense to look into the newer blog postes to see what I posted about it.

Or does it make more sense to update the blog posts once an issue is fixed?

Probably it makes sense to do both to avoid questions..

@Thomas Heinecke the link with your agent no longer works. Could you re-share it?

We seem to still have the issue after FP10IF383

What is weird is that when I get the same email on my IBM verse for traveler it is fine.

Only showing on the clients we have both 9 and 10 clients that are happening with.

Hi

I've a similar issue

A message send to two users with german Special charcters.

One receipient has his mailfile on a Windows based Domino Server the other on a Linux Server.

While on the Windows Server every sign in Header/subject is correct, on the Linux Server we this UTF-8 Header missmatch shown.

Any Idea?

19David B.  09.12.2019 13:43:53  Header/Subject Encoding issues after upgrading to 9.0.1 FP10

Hi,

same issue. On windows there are placed boxes instead of the chinese characters.

Still a problem after Updating/Upgrading Notes

to V9 FP10 or V10 FP3. (in the updates notes from FP10 IF3 if I remember correctly there was an entry which said that this error should've been fixed)

Notes-reset, Design-Replace/Refresh, double checking utf-8 / language / region setting did NOT work at all.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Hi all.

Definitly, the solution is to install the last IF. In my case, 9.0.1 FP10 IF5.

Now it works fine!

Thank you very much.

Stay safe and healthy

Try this steps:

Downoads -> "search Downloads" -> Search this string: "HCL Domino Server v9.0.1 FP10 IF5" and select "files" and not "Download packages"

and you will find it in the Flex Portal

HCL Domino Server v9.0.1 FP10 IF5 64 bit for Windows English
